House Panel Cuts CPB Funding By 25%, Eyes Zero-Fund Future
Americans should keep in mind, too, that Britain spends something like $3 Billion on the BBC. And what's the result? Far better, more free, more informative broadcasting/reporting, news that's not strictly for entertainment, and programming that is not "dumbed down" — you can actually find art on the airwaves (they show Harold Pinter plays on TV, for example).
And the notion that this is really about money is a sick joke, because you don't hear any "fiscal conservatives" pointing out that the entire year's funding for Public Broadcasting costs about as much as one wing on an F-16 fighter jet, do you? Fuck no.
